How many Frenchmen does it take to change a light bulb? One. He holds the bulb, and all of Europe revolves around him. No, but seriously, if there’s one thing France is at the center of, it’s film. The Lumière brothers practically invented it in 1895 Paris; then the New Wave auteurs perfected it in the ’60s. See what French filmmakers have been up to since then at France Cinéma Floride, which runs Friday through Sunday at the Tower Theater.
The mini Francophone film festival opens Friday with R.I.F. (Recherche Dans l’Intérêt des Familles), a thriller about a man wrongly accused of his wife’s disappearance. The 6:55 p.m. screening includes a Q&A with actor Pascal Elbé and producer Patrick Gimenez. Other films include Ducoboo (l’Élève Ducobu), a story about an 11-year-old dunce pulled from the French funny pages, and Jo’s Boy (Le Fils à Jo), a drama about a legendary rugby player.
