Work is over and it’s time to kick off your weekend on the right note. We’re talking drinks, delectables, mixing, and mingling. But you deserve more than a trip to your neighborhood watering hole. Treat yourself to a night on the town at a funky, bohemian locale. At charming aqua-color Wynwood bistro Out of the Blue, a Jamaican Art Party will be in full swing from 6:00 to 11:00 p.m. The exhibition features a vibrant array of imported paintings – landscapes, portraits, abstracts, and other works — from the likes of Angela Staples, El Pedio Robinson, and Mabusha Dennis. The café’s delicious fare will be for sale, and part of the evening’s proceeds will benefit A Thousand Roots of Love, an American Friends of Jamaica Hurricane Dean relief fund. Call 305-389-5500.
Or pull up one at the Heart of the Grove Art Gallery & Gift Shop (3439 Main Hwy., Coconut Grove). The creative haven is celebrating its first anniversary with Chair Affair, a weekend-long celebration and exhibition of seats designed as a competition among local artists. Tonight from 6:00 to 9:00 the gallery opens the show and hosts a silent auction, proceeds of which will benefit the nonprofit GroveHouse Artists’ Cooperative and St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church. Festivities continue on Saturday with a CocoWalk exhibition and culminate with a victorious chair being named at a Mad Hatter’s Tea Party on Sunday. Call 305-445-1743.
