Tonight you might notice hordes of well-dressed men heading to Bird Bowl. The attraction? It’s the beginning of the Gay Bowling League’s season! The evening kicks off with an organizational meeting at 7:00, when teams will be divvied up into groups of three bowlers each. “Practice” bowling starts at 8:00; the real thing begins at 8:15.

Lone bowlers are welcome to come and fill spots on incomplete teams. In fact even if you have friends who want to bowl, you should join separate teams so you can meet new people. Why hide in your little clique all the time? The season is 18 weeks long, so let’s hope you’ll like who you get stuck with. At least you’ll have something in common with your new friends, other than being gay — you all like to bowl. That’s perfect conversation fodder. Drink a few cheap beers, share some nachos, and if you’re lucky, you’ll get your hands on more balls than just the one you bowl with.
