Have you ever been sitting on the couch, smoking out with your buddies while watching Cops, Law & Order, or any of the dozens of CSI shows, and thought, “Dude, I wonder what it would be like to be a cop?” Well, now is your chance to learn the inner workings of your local law enforcement agency when the Miami Beach Police Department presents the Citizens’ Police Academy. After an introduction to the police chief and his command staff, you will experience twelve weeks of live demonstrations and hands on training in areas including special weapons, tactical and pursuit driving, homicide investigation, marine and K 9 units, firearms, and officer survival. Not only will you receive course materials and have the opportunity to view some gnarly videos, but also these cops are so nice they will even provide snacks and drinks before each class. The course is open to anyone living or working in Miami Beach and will be held Wednesday evenings from 6:00 to 9:00 beginning January 18. A thorough criminal background check will be completed on all applicants, and class size is limited, so register early. Admission is free.
