When one sits at a bar and requests a martini, certain elements are expected. Gin or vodka, vermouth, and certainly an olive or two should come into play. You can find precisely one such drink on the menu at the ironically titled Martini Bar – the Dirty Executive martini provides no notable twist on the original cocktail. The rest of the menu is awash in overly sweet, colorful concoctions, all of which come served in the iconic glass and cost around $14. When asked for the house special, the foxy Russian bartender offered Sex with an Accent – a rosy blend of flavored rums with peach schnapps, cranberry juice, and orange juice. My friend eventually ordered the Twisted Melon, an absinthe-color mix of Stoli, Midori, Cointreau, and OJ. “I was like, which of these drinks is the least gay?” he laughed as we stared across the Sunset Place promenade into Pottery Barn’s lush showroom. Good question.
