When a new nightspot gets written up in the New York Times, it can make or break the club’s cool factor. The bright spotlight of the Gray Lady’s cultural coverage is working well for Gemma Lounge. When Alex Quesada featured it in his Miami Beach travel story on February 11, he made glowing mention of its “cadre of handsome black-clad bouncers” and described it as a “jewel of a space.”
Quesada was right — the hidden gem could easily be overlooked on bustling Lincoln Road — it’s tucked away upstairs above an Italian restaurant. But the place is getting great buzz for its weekly Brazilian bossa nova night, which offers blessed respite from the hip-hop hubbub and techno tumult. Settle in for chill beats, top-shelf drinks, and perfect people-watching above the crowds tonight at 9:00.
