Everyone knows the best reason to have kids is so you don’t look like some kind of weirdo or pervert when you attend events like the twelfth annual National Children’s Theater Festival. Sure, the kids will love meeting the Junior Orange Bowl court and seeing a magic show, but can they possibly enjoy the musical Seussical, Jr. as much as you-ssical? No. They’ll groove to performances by Gemz and the Hip-Hop Kidz, but can they totally relate to Rock Musicals through the Ages? We think not. And while they’ll be awestruck when they meet characters like Madeline, Miss Clavel, Charlotte, Templeton, and Wilbur, you know you’ll get more out of the acting and makeup workshops than they will. At least you can both enjoy the Understood Betty performance together.
The fest takes place at Actors Playhouse from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, April 28, and from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m. today. An all-day pass costs fifteen dollars, and there’s kidlicious grub available: A free breakfast will be served by the Bird Road IHOP, while a pizza and soda lunch costs only five dollars.
Sat., April 28, 10 a.m.-4 p.m.; Sun., April 29, 1-5 p.m.
