Golf is generally a sport most people ignore unless there’s a juicy sex scandal involved. Otherwise, it’s not all that interesting. This is especially true when Rick Reilly is somehow involved. (Look at me! I’m terrible at golf! Just like you! But unlike you, I get paid millions to write terrible rehashed jokes about it! It’s funny because I’m lame!) But golf fans will tell you it’s a love affair that cannot be shaken. They say all you need is one good shot on the green and you’re hooked for life. After that, it becomes an obsession. Who can argue with that?
For the hopelessly hooked, there’s the PGA’s Miccosukee Championship at the Miccosukee Golf & Country Club. The challenging course features a 7,200-yard par 71 with water hazards everywhere. The final round, which will be played this Sunday, features a purse of $600,000. Past winners include Chad Collins and D. A. Points. Sure, they’re not Tiger, but these guys can play. And they’re probably funnier than Rick Reilly. Tee time is 10 a.m. The event is free to watch. Call 305-382-3930 or visit miccosukeechampionship.com
