Kicking off a national tour in support of their upcoming album, The Sound of Sunshine, Michael Franti & Spearhead will bring their blend of hip-hop, reggae, funk, and rock to the Fillmore Miami Beach this Friday. Though Franti and Spearhead released their first album, Home, in 1994, their most recent album, All Rebel Rockers, featuring the radio-friendly single “Say Hey (I Love You),” finally pushed them into the mainstream. But Franti has always had a knack for combining catchy tunes with insightful lyrics, as evidenced by his 2006 album, Yell Fire! The album, inspired by his travels to Baghdad, the West Bank, and the Gaza Strip, serves as a plea for peace in the Middle East. Among all of his social causes, though, it’s his stand against shoes that will resonate most with Miamians. The man goes barefoot unless in a pinch, and then he’ll wear only Havaianas.
