Brigitte Bardot was the trailblazing hottie of the mid-20th Century, but she had so much more than sex appeal. As the liberated woman before Women’s Lib, Bardot made the unattainable female desirable to heights that had yet to be conceived or understood. Temperamental and alluring, she harnessed the seductive power of feminine mystery like no one else. Sure, she brought the bikini to the mainstream, but that was a mere prop. What mattered was the pull and push of that attitude stirring behind those big eyes, luscious lips, and curvaceous figure.
Her native French origins only enhanced her romantic mystery in the sexual awakening of the Baby Boom generation. As part of its Rendez-Vous With French Cinema series, the University of Miami’s Bill Cosford Cinema will host a night of obscure Bardot films that feature her in roles that only she could play. In remembrance of her prime days, the Norton Herrick Center for Motion Picture Studies will present Her Bridal Night (1956) and Mademoiselle Striptease (1957).
