Sure, everyone always assumed Barbie liked Ken best. They had that dream house together, and Ken always was a spiffy dresser — not to mention that hair. But while Ken was upstairs perfecting his John Edwards coif (and probably fantasizing about Skipper), Babs was out in her dream car cruising for GIs, men of steel, and hunky hulks. Because the truth is, dolls are for girls. Women need men of action. So it’s no surprise that “It’s Not a Doll, It’s an Action Figure” was put together by a woman — guest curator Anna Pants, whose blog, nerdsquared.com, pays homage to the action figure.
The exhibit, which runs through July 31, features photos, drawings, paintings, and other artwork depicting plastic men of action. So, Barbie, say goodbye to Ken and hello to He-Man. Catch the exhibit this Thursday at the Bear and Bird Boutique + Gallery, located on the second floor of Tate’s Comics.
Mondays-Sundays, 11 a.m. Starts: July 1. Continues through July 31, 2010
