Art can inspire many people to do incredible things, but can it motivate a community to help a man walk again? The Tree Top Collective — local artists who joined forces to create a support system for each other outside of the gallery system — thinks it can. The collective is holding a pre-Halloween costume party, Monster Splash Benefit, to raise money for Aeon, a graffiti artist whose ability to walk has been hindered by multiple sclerosis. In order to spread awareness about the disorder, and to gather funds to help Aeon get physical therapy, the collective is organizing an atypical fundraiser. The bash will put the art in party by featuring artwork, booze, music, and makeup artists ready to transform uncostumed guests into bloody zombies. Piercing artist Jane-Marie Ravelo will use bodies as canvases, poking people in unusual places to make intricate, lace-like patterns on their flesh. We hope that’s voluntary. Dress up for a purpose this Saturday at 9 p.m. at AD013 Studio. Tickets cost $12 at the door and $10 presale. Visit monstersplashbenefit.eventbrite.com.
