Madonna once asked, “Do you know what it feels like for a girl in this world?” Look dudes, no matter how many women’s studies classes you’ve taken or how much Lifetime TV you’ve watched, the female experience isn’t one you can just stumble upon or even easily understand. Maybe psychedelic drugs can offer a portal. There’s a chance, though, that all you need is a good storyteller to get the best idea of what’s going on with the “fairer” sex. Actress and lyricist Maribeth Graham and composer Dana P. Rowe wrote the musical comedy See Jane Run! to present a point of view of what it’s like to live with woman parts and female problems in the 21st Century.
The story is composed of three vignettes, which tell the story of three Janes. One has heart disease, and another is homeless. Doesn’t sound funny, but that’s the brilliance of See Jane Run!, which finds humor and sass in life’s actual problems. Graham describes the feminine experience as “funny, sad, smart, and stupid.” Ain’t that the truth? Make sure to catch the world premiere of the play at the Actors’ Playhouse during preview performances on Wednesday. The show officially opens on July 15 runs through August 14.
