From Critical Mass to Art Walk to Downtown Art Days, Miami’s monthly calendar is peppered with weekly and monthly events that inject a few more hours of color and character into this already colorful city’s communities. And every third Friday, the injection is plunged powerfully into one of this town’s most vibrant hubs of Caribbean culture when Big Night in Little Haiti, a monthly festival produced by the Rhythm Foundation and the Little Haiti Cultural Center, brings people together for a celebration of food, music, and art stemming from one of Miami’s most distinctive and storied populations.
The open-air festivities fill the courtyard of the Little Haiti Cultural Center (212 NE 59th Terrace, Miami) and draw Miamians into a rhythmic and energetic evening that has done wonders to build a long-overdue appreciation for a part of the city that’s been all too often maligned and mischaracterized.
For this month’s Big Night on Friday, Jahfe brings his distinct sound, a lively amalgam of reggae and dub-hop strung together with an awesome thread of full-blown funk throughout. The courtyard also will host DJ Mack, who’ll spin in between acts and provide a baseline of musicality to the night that will leave no sonic space unfilled.
