Miami City Ballet (MCB) will start the new year with a company premiere and further signs of director Lourdes Lopez’s signature influence on the city’s biggest dance troupe. Jardi Tancat is a work based on Catalan folk songs choreographed by the hot Spanish contemporary choreographer Nacho Duato, who weaves in elements from the history and topography of an often-harsh land. MCB adds three more ballets to complete its repertoire for Program II, including a Balanchine set to Bach; Chutes and Ladders by Justin Peck; and a return of Symphonic Dances, created specifically for MCB by choreographer Alexei Ratmansky with a score by Rachmaninoff.
