Las Vegas post-punk glamazons The Killers almost lost the pop honors they earned with Hot Fuss when they decided to get serious with the Americana travesty Sam’s Town. Coupled with inflated egos (Lead singer Brandon Flowers said Sam’s Town would be “one of the best albums of the past twenty years”), the album seemed to result in a crossroads: Realize your strengths — aka let Springsteen do his job — or fade into the post-punk abyss. A b-sides release followed, but the last studio album 2008’s Day and Age signified a return to form — sort of. They incorporated some of Sam’s Town‘s grandiosity, but they were smart enough to figure out, finally, that they shouldn’t disown their fabulous knack for synth-driven glam-rock. They’ll play American Airlines Arena October 3.
