The Miami Hurricanes are gearing up for their 11th season in the ACC and have yet to even win the conference’s Coastal Division. That counts as a fall from grace for a team who used to be in the national title conversation every year.
But damn it, at this point fans would be thrilled with just a trip to ACC title game. Well, good news, the media has tipped Miami as the favorites to win the division this year.
The Canes weren’t exactly a resounding pick, though. In fact, two other teams, North Carolina Tech and last year’s surprise winners, Duke, got more first place votes. Miami however got the most points total.
The 112 members of the ACC media gave Miami 614 points, 597 for Duke, 571 for Virginia Tech, and 570 for North Carolina. It remains a cluttered division. Twenty-six members picked Miami as the outright winner of the division.

The team the Hurricanes are expected to face in the ACC championship game is not much of a surprise at all. It’s last year’s national champions, Florida State. They’re huge favorites in the Atlantic Division, and 104 of the 112 press members picked FSU to win it all.
This isn’t the first time the Canes have been picked to win the Coastal Division. They were also tipped to win it in 2006 and just last season, but came up short each time. The Hurricanes would have won the division in 2012, but were serving a self-imposed post-season ban at the time.
