Miami is a little topsy-turvy when it comes to growing season. Just when the rest of the country is settling down for frost to cover the farmlands, we’re gearing up for fresh produce at farmers markets, U-Pick tomato patches, and via CSA boxes delivered to our doors.

Teena’s Pride (20025 SW 270 Street, Homestead) is one of south Florida’s most well known farms. Teena Borek has been farming in Florida for 35 years and, with the help of her son Michael, operates the farm and the CSA program.

On Sunday, November 4, Teena’s Pride opens its gates to the public with tours, cooking demonstrations, and a farmers market.

tastings of their raw vegetables and herbs and continuous cooking

demonstrations, so you’ll know just what to do with that heritage

eggplant you received in your CSA box.

Buy produce on site, or

purchase some starter plants and start your own herb garden. You’ll

also be able to get information on the Teena’s Pride CSA programs, which

is an easy way to start eating locally. Full, half, and quarter shares

are available, and start as low as $40, billed every two weeks.

Children are welcome at the open house and it’s a good way to show your kids

that vegetables are not evil creatures sent from another planet

to destroy mankind with their green stalks of death.

Visit teenaspride.com for directions to the farm or call 305-216-2336.
