Tropical Storm Chantal was pronounced dead today at approximately 4:40 p.m. after dissipating in the Caribbean Sea about 260 miles south of Cuba.
So all you relatively newly arrived folk who haven’t gone through this hundreds of times before can all stop freaking out. Though, Chantal’s remnants could still make for a somewhat rainy weekend in South Florida.
Although Chantal’s has now officially deteriorated into a tropical wave, the National Weather Service warns that we could still see between two and four inches of rain in South Florida thanks to the system. Though, no significant, widespread flooding is expected.
Chantal caused some flooding on the Island of Hispaniola while skirting its edges, but failed to make landfall at tropical storm speeds.

Chantal was preceded in death by her 2013 hurricane season siblings Andrea and Barry. She is gone, and will likely be quickly forgotten.
