Just a year after the BP oil disaster in the Gulf and just in time for Earth Day there are reports of oil washing up on the beach at Bill Baggs Cape Florida State Park in Key Biscayne. Oil has also been spotted on the shores of John U. Lloyd Beach State Park in Dania Beach.
The amount of oil, and where it came from has not been reported. According to The Sun-Sentinel, the Florida Department of Environmental Protection is pushing all further inquirers to the Coast Guard.
Weeks after the BP oil disaster tar balls appeared on the shore of Key West. After testing it was determined that the oil in the tar balls did not come from the Gulf disaster. Occasionally oil globs do appear due to amounts of oil that make their way into the water from boat engines.
