You can go to a hundred clubs in Miami with half-naked party people sweating it out to a world-class DJ.
But last night, the Standard flipped the script on that template, hosting a free, life-affirming meditative journey led by Donna D’Cruz on the (CDJ) wheels of steel in the hotel’s hamam spa.
D’Cruz is not only a globetrotting party girl but also the leader of musical therapy sessions at super-high-end Phoenix drug rehab centers as well as a fund-raiser for parolees.
Guests were led to a third-floor terrace, where a bowl of cucumber water greeted them.
The view wasn’t bad either.There was mixing and mingling.Then they were offered Mercy, an “elixir” that supposedly eliminates hangovers if it’s ingested preemptively (while you’re getting drunk). People drank it. But there was no liquor anywhere in sight.

Some of them walked around in bathrobes.They picked up gift bags and smiled.Then they were led into the hamam. It’s like a sauna. In Turkish.
They relaxed and waited for the DJ.There was a bunch of candles burning in the middle of the room.There was a tub if you wanted to take a bath.
Then D’Cruz entered the room and hit the decks.She soothingly repeated Zen quotes and played new-age music.She looked like she was having a good time.A couple of hours later, it was over, and people thanked her and told her how much they loved the experience.
It must be tough to be a DJ.
