We haven’t seen a fight over tomatoes this heated since Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers argued about the fruit’s correct pronunciation in Shall We Dance. Luckily, they decided to call the whole thing off before anyone’s neck got broken.
Lerner Rodriguez wasn’t so lucky.
The Miami Beach resident was driving through the Redland last month when he let his 10-year-old daughter get out to pick a tomato they had spotted. A man claiming to be the plant’s owner was nearby and saw the girl with one tomato in her hand. He confronted the pair, and things got physical. Rodriguez was left with neck fractures. The assailant fled in a Jeep Wrangler.
Miami-Dade Police are on the lookout for the suspect and have released a sketch (after the jump). They believe the man to be from 40 to 60 years old with light salt-and-pepper hair. Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
