73. Creamy Tahini with Hummus at Broken Shaker

Creamy it is, with a wet texture that makes you wonder at first, “do I like it?” And you keep eating, until those little triangles of

pita are scraping the edges of the bowl, attempting to scoop up all remains. It’s heavy on the tahini, which is why it’s called the “creamy tahini with hummus” ($8). Yet, friends who insisted we try this, boasted of the “hummus” at Broken Shaker, citing it as strangely delicious. We resisted the call, hummus is not normally on our “impress me” list. We were wrong.

Although there is hummus involved, the focus here is most definitely on the richness of milky tahini. That heavy burst of sesame is prevalent in every bite, and we were thrilled to be rewarded with a smattering of firm chickpeas lining the bottom (we encourage childish infatuation with food surprises). Plus, it’s served with a small side of barely pickled vegetables; healthy late night munching for tipsy Shaker patrons. We asked what exactly is in this stuff, and the answer was “love.” Right back at ya.
