We love Miami-inspired music and videos. So it’s hard for us not to get behind Mobroder, the Italo-disco side project from Spank Rock, Blu Jemz, and DJ Hoff that seems hell-bent on creating the perfect Magic City soundtrack. (Mobroder’s Twitter lists its location as “Miami 1983.”)
And for the “Rush” music video, directors Francisco Soriano and Antoine Wagner, who are behind the upcoming Phoenix documentary, From A Mess to the Masses, takes the trio’s fondness for our city and places them against a backdrop of Art Deco buildings, fast cars, and beautiful ladies. There are even quick glances of downtown Miami and landmarks like the Arsht Center and Ice Palace Studios.
Yes, it’s an idealized version of our city, all fabricated for a NBC show. (Miami, ahem, Vice…) But you got to hand it to Soriano and Wagner for recreating that ’80s charm, complete with German news crew, in a city forever stuck in the excess of that decade. Recession be damned!
