Jose Bautisa, an 18-year-old student at Dr. Michael M. Krop Senior High, wanted to boost his GPA. Instead of improving his resumé, though, he ended up adding to his rap sheet. The teen now faces eight felonies and has been placed under house arrest after hacking into a school website to change his grades and those of four other students.
Just a month form graduation, Bautisa was arrested by Miami-Dade Schools Police last Thursday after his principal turned him in.
He faces charges of intellectual property offense, modifying programs, and an offense against computer users.
According to CBS Miami, Bautista began soliciting some friends at the beginning of the year about the possibility of changing their grades. WSVN adds that he might have taken money in exchange for the hacking.

On Friday, he appeared in Miami-Dade bond court, where his bond was set at $20,000. He’s since been released but ordered to wear a GPS monitoring device and will remain under house arrest.
It’s unlikely now that the teen will graduate. However, his public defender noted in court Friday that the total number of charges levied against him might be excessive. He faces multiple counts of the same charge for allegedly changing multiple students’ grades.
