State Rep. David Rivera’s campaign for U.S. Congress has taken quite the ass-kicking since he was caught being less than forthright about his friendship with Ariel Pereda, a Miami businessman who facilitates trade with Cuba. Being a hard-line, pro-Cuban-embargo advocate since he took public office, Rivera didn’t expect to look like a hypocrite heading into tonight’s monthly meeting and candidates forum of the Republican Party of Miami-Dade. And who knows if Rivera will even show up, considering one of his political opponents is promising to expose the former House budget committee chairman in front of local GOP’ers.

Paul Crespo, one of Rivera’s challengers in the Republican primary this August, claims he will confront Rivera and demand that he resign as the Miami-Dade GOP’s chairman. Via an email sent by his campaign, Crespo accuses Rivera of violating party bylaws and that he has documents and photographs that “will prove Mr. Rivera’s wanton violations and abuses.”

“Mr. Rivera has shown a complete disdain for fairness and has on numerous occasions overstepped the bounds of ethical behavior,” Crespo said.

In other words, shit is about to get serious. Cue the Yung Joc, because it’s goin’ down at 7 p.m. inside the Renaissance Ballroom at 5910 SW Eighth St.
