Rue McClanahan, one of the stars of legendary 1980s sitcom Golden Girls, has passed on at the age of 76. People magazine reports that she died at 1 a.m. this morning surrounded by family, and had suffered a minor stroke earlier this year after bypass surgery.
In our humble opinion Golden Girls ranks right up there with Scarface as one of Hollywood’s greatest efforts set in Miami, and we just couldn’t let one of the stars pass with out a tribute.
McClanahan played Blanche Devereaux the prototypical sex-positive, post-menopausal temptress long before the world ever knew what a “Samantha Jones” was.
Below we’ve picked out a few of our favorite Blanche scenes. And, yes, Rue, thank you for being a friend.
