A customer at a U-Gas station in North Miami made a grisly discovery this morning at about 5:45 a.m. The customer found a cardboard box inside a dumpster outside of the station and opened it up to find the body of a dead newborn baby inside. They immediately called 911.

Police arrived on the scene, and are investigating the situation at 1601 NW 119th Street.

“We are at this current time with the investigators looking into all the details as to the manner of death, cause of death, how it came to be at this location,” North Miami police spokesman Maj. Neal Cuevas told NBC Miami.

Police have not identified the gender of the child, but said it appeared to be a newborn and was wrapped in fabric.
