The play Cheaper to Keep Her tells the story of Raymond Mays and the dilemma he faces after divorcing his wife Morgan. A judge decides that Morgan will keep everything — including the house and a retirement fund — and Raymond considers that it might have been cheaper to stay married. He is then faced with two options to avoid paying alimony: Kill his ex-wife or get her hitched to another man.
Written for the stage by Je’Caryous Johnson, Cheaper to Keeper Her is a Tyler Perry-esque musical comedy that deals with the pains of marriage, divorce, revenge, and remorse. It’s filled with great songs, comedic relief, and an old-as-time message that sometimes the grass isn’t greener on the other side. Which plan will Raymond choose? And will he ultimately regret his decision? Find out at performances starring Brian McKnight and Vivica A. Fox this Friday and Saturday at James L. Knight Center.
