In 2008, we saw Meshaun Labrone Arnold’s production of The Hate You Gave: The Tupac Shakur Story and declared it a remarkable show that pummels your guts and breaks your heart before it goes to work on your head. The Miami-based actor, playwright, and teacher is back and bringing his story of the Herculean music legend to the Byron Carlyle Theater. The curtain will rise at 8 p.m. this Friday and Saturday, and the audience will get to see how a man whose lyrics were so full of soul and expression was haunted by the demons of his past.

“Last year’s run of The Hate U Gave: The Tupac Shakur Story was so well received by audiences and critics alike that we wanted to bring it back and give more people the opportunity to experience it,” explains Jose Terrier, marketing director at the theater company Ground Up & Rising. “Staging this original play in both Homestead and Miami Beach allows Ground Up & Rising to fulfill its mission by reaching out to younger audiences, particularly in culturally underserved communities such as Homestead, while expanding the rich cultural diversity in Miami Beach and South Florida in general.”
