The always-edgy minds at GableStage may have outdone themselves this time. Edward Albee’s The Goat or Who is Sylvia? is the shockingly amusing tale of an architect named Martin (Bob Rogerson) whose happy life, complete with loving wife and gay teenage son, is changed by the admission that he is in love with a goat — intimately in love, that is. It’s enough to make even the mythical chupacabra blush and the least we can expect from the playwright famous for penning Who’s Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and other scandalous favorites. Laura Turnbull, Stephen S. Neal, and Ryan Capiro also star. The Goat, which won several “best new play” awards (Tony, N.Y. Drama Critics Circle, Drama Desk, and Outer Critic’s Circle) last year and is recommended for mature audiences, runs through Sunday, November 9. Latin music as we know it would likely have an entirely different sound if it weren’t for the King of the Mambo, timbales master Tito Puente. Only the death of Celia Cruz could rival the impact of his death last year. Though small in stature, Puente was a giant. Tonight a host of Latin music stars including Ednita Nazario, Domingo Quiñones, Sheila E., and Richie Ray unite to perform Viva Puente, The Tribute, a memorial review of el maestro‘s music. Hosted by Six Feet Under star Freddy Rodriguez, the event starts at 8:00 at the Jackie Gleason Theater, 1700 Washington Ave. Tickets range from $30 to $100. It’s hard to say who will be the performer and who will be the audience when Berlin’s edgy dance company Cie Felix Ruckert performs its experimental piece, Deluxe Joy Pilot, for the premiere of Miami Light Project’s fifteenth season. The troupe’s signature style tends to blur the lines between spectator and participant. In fact the dances could well be described as happenings, where there are no boundaries and audience members are invited to release their inhibitions by contributing to the piece. Aside from the customary rows of chairs, the audience will be invited to lounge on beds and inflatable club chairs. There the dancers will likely approach for some interplay. As a result each performance is unique. In fact the company is happy to be considered a dance laboratory that’s ready for anything. Twins. Biological wonders that inspire curiosity or existential freaks? When you really think about identical twins, especially those who look eerily alike, such as folksingers Chris and Meredith Thompson, you begin to question the concept of identity. How does one really know which one is which? One day Chris wakes up as Meredith, and Meredith uses Chris’s toothbrush. If they swap names do they, in a sense, morph into a third unnamed entity? Do they even know who is whom? Diane Arbus must have trudged this train of thought upon snapping her famously freakish photograph of identical twin sisters in matching velvet dresses. Tonight the Thompson twins spark deep thoughts in harmony as they take the stage at Main Street Cafe (128 N. Krome Ave., Homestead). The show starts at 8:00. Tickets cost $10.
