One simple line from Monster Jam’s website captures its awesomeness: “Cars, buses, caravans, boats, large trucks, and even airplanes may show up on the track as obstacles for the drivers to tackle.” What won’t they smash? Buildings? Tanks? The popemobile? Monster trucks, the 10,000-pound behemoths that trample everything in their paths, aren’t just destruction machines. They’re beautiful, if brawny, works of art. Ignore misplaced stereotypes — this event is enjoyable for anyone open-minded enough to watch metal be mangled by vehicles that should exist only in the pages of comic books. The obviousness of Monster Jam’s greatness begins the second the trucks’ keys are turned and the roar of the 1,500-horsepower, high-octane-fueled engines rip through the arena, popping eardrums and stealing breath from lungs. So yeah, you can bring your bros, your kids, and your thirst for wreckage to the BankAtlantic Center (1 Panther Pkwy., Sunrise) this Friday and Saturday. Just don’t be ashamed if the spectacle brings a tear to your eye. Real men cry too, ya know. Shows begin at 7 p.m. Friday and 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday. Tickets cost $20. Call 954-835-7825 or visit bankatlanticcenter.com.
Fri., Aug. 17, 7 p.m.; Sat., Aug. 18, 7 p.m., 2012
