The rest of the country might despise the Miami Heat, but the hate doesn’t extend to the team’s hot-ass dance team. Heat dancers are always among the most stalked and Facebook-creeped in the league, having been voted the Most Popular Dance Team in the NBA from 2006 to 2009 (that’s double the amount of MVPs LeBron has!). Part of their dominance comes from the ability to recruit a constant supply of hotties who know how to shake their booties from South Florida streets. If you think your ass has got the right jiggle, you could be part of the team next year.
The auditions for next year’s squad will take place in July but there’s a special workshop this Sunday. Who knows you could be a future cast member on Basketball Wives – forget that jive about dancers not being able to bag ballers, it happens all the time (see Royce Reed). Read on for details.
The auditions take place at 11 a.m. on July
10 at the American Airlines Arena. You’ll need a two-piece form-fitting

outfit (no use trying to hide your saddle bags behind some baggy clothes).
You also have to show up all dolled up with full performance make-up.
Sneakers or dance shoes are also required (with no black soles, or souls
– we’ll leave the latter to the Mavericks).
Prospective dancers need to have a resume and headshot (which won’t
be returned), must be 18 years old by July 10, and have a
flexible evening schedule for rehearsals, games, and appearances during
the season. (Rats! That disqualifies most strippers!)
Dancers serious about the tryouts should lay down $35 for one of two
special pre-audition workshops starting this Sunday at the arena. The
workshops will give dancers a taste of the choreography style that will
be taught at the auditions and there will also be a Q&A with current
Heat dancers and Heat Dancer Director Janine Thompson. She’ll give you
feedback on appearance and performance.
In addition to the workshops, there will be several clinics to further
help dancers prepare for the auditions where there will be more
choreography lessons and tips given. The clinics cost $20 per session
and there are two more scheduled next Wednesday and July 5 at 7:30 p.m.
Dancers who are chosen from the July 10 tryouts will have to
participate in a training camp from July 11 through July 14 from 6 to 11
p.m. every night. The final team will be selected at the end of the
week.
