The days of dinner theater are sadly over, and chowing down in front of your TV set has become a pathetic routine. If you are seeking entertainment with a quality meal, lay down the remote and head to Titanic Restaurant and Brewery. It’s karaoke night with Boogie Man George, and the regulars are raring to go. “Boogie Man George has a following. I’d say a group of 15 to 30 people always come,” says manager Amanda Kerr. The songs chosen at this University of Miami neighborhood hangout are diverse, to say the least. A wannabe rocker with a tremulous alto tries the Goo Goo Dolls’ “I’ll Be” on for size. A clean-shaven thirtysomething does a passable cover of Neil Diamond’s “Forever in Blue Jeans.”
The waitress brings out beef empanadas and blackened shrimp quesadillas while a giggly couple ham their way through “Summer Lovin’.” The line at the bar is companionable and moves quickly as crooners muster up courage with pints of Double India Pale Ale and Britannic Best Bitter. A raucous rendition of “Jungle Boogie” – complete with sound effects – gets the crowd up and dancing. The fun begins at 9:00 p.m., and admission is free.
