The pews will be filled with yapping Yorkies, purring Persians, and bounding bunnies today at St. John’s on the Lake United Methodist Church for the annual Pet Blessing service. The event marks the Feast Day of St. Francis of Assisi, the patron saint of animals and the environment. Officially on October 4, Feast Day is a beautiful way for people to celebrate the special bond they have with their furry, feathered, and scaly pets. “Next to Easter and Christmas services, our annual pet blessing is the most anticipated and enthusiastically received Sunday of the year,” says Pastor Annette Jones. The nondenominational service begins today at 11:00 a.m. and will be followed by a special “yappy hour” featuring treats courtesy of Dog Bar. Call 305-531-7166, or visit www.stjohnsmiamibeach.com.
