Who you calling thin-voiced?

Alex at Stuck on the Palmetto wants to “open a window into the culture and the society” of Cuba. In a post called Vamos a Cuba, he links to YouTube video of Silvio Rodriguez, “the most popular singer in Cuba.”

Alex rhapsodizes: “His were the songs we sang, the lyrics we wrote in the back of school notebooks, the background music for our first kisses. Poetic, inescrutable, virtuoso guitar and thin voiced, we didn’t care for his politics then and we don’t care now, what we care about are the songs of hope and struggle and love that were about us.” Alex’s heartfelt post is worth a read; Rodriguez is worth a listen.
