Imanuel Tafari has a cure for what ails you. As the proud owner of Garden of Eatin’, a vegan restaurant and juice bar tucked away just off of Martin Luther King, Jr. Boulevard, he’s become a healer for the health-conscious community. “We use no animal products whatsoever. Not even honey. A lot of people come here for medicinal juices. Some people come because they have diabetes, or they feel sluggish,” says Tafari, who recommends carrots as an energizing cleanser and “green juice” (made from wheatgrass, spinach, parsley, or alfalfa) to build the immune system.

In addition to nourishing the body with delicious, affordable juices and food, Tafari’s restaurant also provides rich sustenance for the minds of those who visit. The establishment offers a full roster of weekly events, starting with drum circles on Mondays, and ending with a car wash service and seasonal farmer’s market on Sundays. Thursdays from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m., Tafari offers free film screenings. “We show educational videos, cultural videos that are informative about food, the war, global warming, things like that. Then we have a discussion,” he says. Tonight’s film focuses on the African holocaust and the effects on today’s generations.
