What better way to kick off a healthful new year than by socking it to that rat bastard known as diabetes. The Sunshine State’s culinary hero, Norman Van Aken, is guest-cheffing a tasty evening to benefit research for the cure. The master of New World cuisine will make edible magic this Sunday for hungry Miamians willing to shell out $250 a pop for Pleasures of the Palate. Guests will meet, eat, and mingle at the über-exclusive La Gorce Country Club (5685 Alton Rd., Miami Beach). The evening affair kicks off with cocktails and hors d’oeuvres, followed by four courses courtesy of Aken and La Gorce executive chef Tim Nickey. The menu is straight out of the famous toque’s pub, My Key West Kitchen, and will include wine pairings. Diabetes haters can also get in on some auction action to score rare wines and exotic trips.
