See Floatopia: South Beach Innertube Ocean Party Rescheduled.

Pain-in-the ass Tropical Storm Isaac may have screwed up Floatopia’s first scheduled go-around, but come hell or high water, the buoyant beach bash is making its way to South Pointe Park this Saturday.

The party is set to kick off at 10 a.m. on September 8, and according to organizers, people are prepared — perhaps because they’ve had an extra two weeks to plan. Some have acquired 10-person party rafts equipped with built-in coolers. Others will come armed with homemade contraptions and animal floaties. But all are ready to rock.

For the uninformed, Floatopia is exactly what it sounds like: a party that floats. Versions of this floating fete have gone down in cities across the U.S., including San Diego, Virginia Beach, and Honolulu. While other cities have faced a few issues with local residents and police, Miami organizers are urging attendees to have fun within legal limits and to please clean up after themselves.

“We want this to be the first of many Floatopias in Miami, so we don’t want to give anyone any reason to stop our fun,” one organizer told Cultist.

Organizers also say the party has expanded exponentially since inception. More than 1,000 people have now RSVP’d, and there’s an official after-party complete with free booze.

Miami Beach’s Chalk Lounge will be offering complimentary cocktails from 9 to 10 p.m. and free ping pong play from 10 to 11 p.m. for all Floatopia attendees. (Well, those 21 and over, anyway.) Floatopians can either pick up a wristband at the event itself, or ask for one at Chalk’s front door.

Get those floaties ready — this is looking like one epic event.

Attendees can RSVP on the event’s Facebook page, or just show up starting at 10 a.m. on the beach side of South Pointe Park, near the pier.
