Here in the subtropics, we don’t have motherly queens and stately princes. We have something far more regal: the quinceañera. Donning a Swarovski crystal-encrusted princess crown and flowing ball gown, she wanders the manicured lawns of the Italian Renaissance-inspired Vizcaya Museum & Gardens, stopping to lean against a wrought-iron gate or gaze wistfully at glistening Biscayne Bay. So what if every other 15-year-old has the same backdrop in her album? This is a 305 rite of passage.
And this Friday night’s 14th annual Evening Under the Stars fundraiser will offer the rare opportunity to give back to Vizcaya, which has given us so many cringe-worthy framed photographs only another Miamian could ever understand. From 7:30 to 11 p.m., enjoy light food, drinks, a fashion show, a silent auction, and music courtesy of DJ Crunchtime while touring the estate’s grandiose halls and gardens. Oh, and in case you didn’t get enough royal fantasy in your teens, Prince William and Kate Middleton’s wedding will be broadcast on a large screen all night long. T
