On the surface, the budding rivalry between the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat represents something very basic: the defending conference champions protecting their title from the newest challengers. But to many observers, this matchup between the team of perfectly in-tune veterans and the team of hastily assembled megastars is a plain old case of good versus evil. The demonization of the Heat is a story as old as the team itself, and the Celtics are a perfect foil. The franchises themselves are polar opposites — the Heat has barely any history and a fickle fan base, whereas the Celtics have the most storied past in the sport and had a Hollywood film made about their fans’ passion. Then there are the squads. The Heat is a high-flying, fast-break team where positions are merely suggestions; meanwhile, the Celtics run an immaculate offense with ironclad roles. Oh, and the Heat has yet to beat the Beantowners. The showdown takes place Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at the American Airlines Arena.
