The Miami International Film Festival, which runs through Sunday, features a bevy of fantastic films to soothe the independent film-loving beast inside us all. Thursday’s films include Young Goethe in Love, a Shakespeare in Love-style historical romp about Germany’s great poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and his tragic tale of love and loss that inspired him to pen his masterpiece, The Sorrows of Young Werther. On Friday at 6:45 p.m., catch Magic City Memoirs, director Aaron J. Salgado’s love letter to Miami, which tells the story of three private school pals and their journey into the South Beach life of sex, drugs, and hip-hop. At 9:45 p.m., see With or Without Love, also at the Gusman, a rich love triangle set in Spain. The film festival closes with an awards night Saturday and a screening of the Academy Award-nominated Canadian film Incendies at the Gusman at 7 p.m. Also this week, catch encore screenings of James Marsh’s engrossing documentary Project Nim, as well as Peter Stormare’s powerful performance in Small Town Murder Songs.
