Another fashion week? Did we not, like, just have one? In a city that revolves around surgically enhanced bodies ensconced in couture, it is no surprise we find ourselves in the midst of models once again. Miami Fashion Week, now in its eighth year, promises the hottest fashions from top international designers, with a heavy concentration from the Americas. Although we are excited to see the collections of established designers such as Venezuela’s Nicolas Felizola, Colombia’s Cecilia Perez, and Russia’s D’Lorisan, we are most interested in checking out the fresh looks from tomorrow’s stars. Today at 1:00, seniors from Design and Architecture Senior High (DASH) will present their final school project before being thrust into the real world. Ranging from men’s designs to bridal to children’s wear, 35 students will showcase five or six of their best pieces to the fashion-hungry crowd. Alexis Forte, DASH Fashion Club president, will present a line inspired by dolls, which includes antique fabrics, oversize dresses, and even a toy soldier. “We work all year toward this final goal,” says Forte, who will attend the prestigious Central Saint Martins College in London this fall. “[DASH] is very supportive of our future goals.” The sashaying takes place at the Miami Beach Convention Center.
