Branford Marsalis, the oldest of the virtuoso Marsalis brothers, just might be one of the hardest-working men in showbiz. The New Orleans-born saxophonist began his career in the ’80s with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers, and thanks to his musical eclecticism, he has also performed as a sideman with the likes of Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, and Sting. Amid juggling production for his record label, performing alongside younger sibling Wynton with Jazz at Lincoln Center, and leading his acclaimed jazz quartet, it’s a wonder he has time to toot his own horn.
For his South Florida stop tonight he will showcase music from Metamorphosen, his quartet’s latest studio release. The disc contains compositions from all four members, and the music they play together swings so hard it’s no wonder they’re considered one of the best jazz ensembles out there.
