This Thursday, June 11, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., Miami Art Museum has a special treat in store for architecture enthusiasts and the green movement contingent.
MAM — located at 101 W. Flagler St. in downtown Miami — is kicking off its Summer Nights, held every second Thursday evening of the month from June through August, with a screening of Visual Acoustics: The Modernism of Julius Shulman, a documentary by Erick Brickner.
Visual Acoustics explores the life and influence of Shulman, an iconic photographer whose images spread California modernism around the world. If you’ve ever come across shots of Frank Lloyd Wright‘s or Pierre Koenig‘s surreal buildings, it’s a safe bet Shulman took the pictures. Click here to see the trailer.
Following the screening, officials from Rescue Earth, a nonprofit organization dedicated to sustaining a green planet, will make a presentation about its ongoing local projects, which include developing a recycling program for the Florida Department of Health and Safety, cultivating an organic herb garden with students from MAST Academy, and lobbying Congress to create the Green Corps, a new division of the armed forces comprising injured soldiers working on the Everglades restoration project.
In keeping with the night’s environmentally conscious theme, local architects Albert Gomez and Hugo Mijares will discuss their company, Modulaire, which will manufacture custom-made portable homes from discarded freight containers.
