It’s as rare as seeing Sasquatch or the Chupacabra. But when Mike Miller suits up for the Miami Heat and his thumbs are in working order, good things happen. (It’s not quite the same when his thumbs are busted up like they were most of last season, or when Sasquatch mauls your face or the Chupacabra eats your sheep.) Miller went six for six from the three-point line in his season debut against the Spurs. He also played outstanding defense, dove for loose balls, got elbowed in the nuts, and still finished the game with thumbs intact. And the best part: When Mike Miller is in the Heat lineup, awesome happens. His presence gives Miami not only more offensive versatility against smaller lineups but also an extra dimension at the wing (along with fellow sharpshooters James Jones and Shane Battier). When LeBron James, Dwyane Wade, and Chris Bosh are all healthy and in the lineup with Miller, it’s even more amazeballs — the offense simply crushes opponents by an average of 25 points every 48 minutes. That’s some serious ass-kicking right there. So now we just need to hope Miller stays healthy for the remainder of the year. Thumbs crossed!
