Animate! Miami is a revamped addition to this year’s slate of conventions dedicated to Miami’s geek scene — this time focusing purely on anime and animation. Voice actors form the bulk of the celebrity guests — most notably including the My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic cast, who’ll hold court with their “brony” fans Sunday at 11:30 a.m.
Cosplay — dressing as one’s favorite characters — is another major draw. Learn how to get your Captain Planet outfit just right at one of the various instructional panels, like “Make-Up & Wigs for Cosplay” on Friday at 4:15 p.m., or if you’ve perfected your look, try your luck at one of the cosplay contests. Whether you’re leaning more toward Adult Swim or anime, there’s something for any animation fanatic.
The con runs from Friday through Sunday at the Doubletree Miami Airport & Convention Center (711 NW 72nd Ave., Miami). Events start at 2 p.m. Friday and 11 a.m. Saturday and Sunday. Tickets cost $20 to $45. Although passes will be available at the door, online registration is recommended.
