It’s been 26 years since the Miami Book Fair International first hit our lil’ city, and since then it’s become one of the most highly anticipated events of the year. Though the preliminary excitement doesn’t quite match the all-out roars you hear leading up to drug and alkie-friendly WMC or wine-and-cheese-fueled Basel, the same intensity is there. The afterparties are nil and the fashions are more along the lines of smoking jacket than neon-green-laced-with-puke jacket, but as far as intellectual pursuits go, this weekend is gonna rock. Your admission fee of $8 ($5 for people over 62, free for under 18) allows you access to the Street Fair, Children’s Alley, Comix Galaxy, and readings from more than 400 authors.
So drop your kids off at the Alley, a place where storytelling reigns supreme, and stroll the collection of hundreds of booksellers and exhibitors. They’re ready to introduce you to the next story you won’t be able to tear yourself away from. Visit miamibookfair.com for a full list of events.
