Miami’s Ballet Etudes will entertain dance lovers with one of the most enduring ballets, Sleeping Beauty. The ballet, set to Tchaikovsky’s timeless music, is the first performance of the dance company’s 40th-anniversary season, which will feature ballet classics.
The company will perform with some new guests: artists Laura Valentin and Jose Rodriguez, principal dancers from Balleteatro Nacional de Puerto Rico, will perform the leading roles. The evil fairy Carabosse will be played by prima ballerina Dagmar Moradillos, who is making a special appearance for this performance. In all, the production will feature more than 50 dancers, including soloists and corps de ballet. The ballet will dazzle audiences not only with spectacular dance but also with gorgeous set design and magical, sumptuous costumes.
The first performance of the season begins at 8 p.m. Saturday at the Colony Theatre (1040 Lincoln Rd., Miami Beach). If you can’t catch it Saturday, there will be another chance for you to see the classic before it’s in the record books. An afternoon performance is set for Sunday at 3 p.m., a perfect time to treat the whole family.
Tickets cost $35 to $45. Visit colonytheatremiamibeach.com.
