Way back in the early ’90s, when MTV still actually played music, the network ran a series of sepia-toned, faux-infomercials featuring a fast-talking, wise-cracking, chain-smoking Beantown escapee named Denis Leary.
Leary was pissed and he wanted you to know it — pissed about R.E.M. and the save-the-world types; about David Duke and the rest of America’s racists; about those who don’t vote but still moan. Leary was even pissed about MTV and the bands it’d be praising during that year’s Video Music Awards — which he was hosting! The clips were quick, they were keen, and they made our man a monster.
Fast-forward almost 20 years, and Leary is a veteran of numerous films and stand-up specials, as well as the star of the award-winning Rescue Me. To celebrate the show’s third season, Leary has gone back out on the road — this time with some of the cast in tow. This Sunday’s show is the SoFla installment of his Rescue Me Comedy Tour, and you can bet your ass he won’t be apologizing for anything. So if you’re the type to say, “I’m sorry,” perhaps it’s best you stay home.
